Day 1: Transfer to Kibale National park – Bigodi Swamp walk

Today after very early breakfast, your guide will pick you up at 6 am from your hotel at transfer you to Kibale Forest National park. Kibale Forest National park  nick named the primate capital of the world with the stars being the chimpanzees but the park has other primates like the red tailed monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys, l’host monkeys and a rich bird life with the breasted pitta being one of the highly sought after birds on a bird watching safari in Uganda.

You will have lunch and after lunch you will go for the Bigodi swamp sanctuary walk run by the community to support them. Expect to see butterflies, beautiful birds like the great blue turaco and other small animals. There are about 200 bird species in this beautiful Bigodi swamp.

You will come back to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Primate Lodge is semi-luxe lodge located in the middle of Kibale Forest surrounded by lush green trees with sounds from the primates and birds from the forest. It has luxury and standard cottages that will make your stay a pleasant one. The cottages have flushing toilets, hot showers and each cottage has a private deck with views of the forests. The rooms are spacious and very clean. The restaurant serves excellent food and there is a bar to wind down from.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking – Afternoon crater walk

3 Days Kibale forest chimpanzee tracking tour | Kibale Forest national parkToday is the day you will come close to the chimpanzee on your chimpanzee tracking experience. Your guide will drive you to the park head offices at 8am for briefing about chimpanzee tracking. You will need to carry enough water. From here, you will head to the dark forest following some trails. With the tracker, you come across chimpanzees, swinging from tree to tree, others nesting in the trees and making pat hoots (Their way of communication). These chimpanzees are habituated and a bit comfortable with human presence but will go about their lives. You will spend one hour with them and then return to the lodge for lunch.

After lunch, you will go for a guided walk to the crater lakes in the South of Fort Portal that is donned with about 80 crate lakes. These crater lakes are a result of the many volcanic eruptions that happened years ago. You will hike to these beautiful crater lakes which are shaped differently, surrounded by either forests or cliffs. Lakes Nkuruba and Nyabikere are some of the crater lakes in the region. You will have great views of Ndali and Kyaninga crates lakes with breath taking views.

After the crater walk, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight

Day 3: Transfer back to Kampala.

Today makes the end of a wonderful primate and crater lakes safari. You will leave early morning and if you are flying out tonight make sure your flight leaves at least at 10 pm.

Accommodation for tonight not included in the program but if you let us know, we can book accommodation for one more night/nights for you in Kampala or Entebbe.
